Adaptation B: Post-Crit Reflection

Overall, I feel the crit went well. I received good feedback, and was able to present something I was happy with, despite having left very little time to finish it. I understand that I must work faster in future in order to produce my best work, and I can also see that I'm more capable than I previously thought, especially in programs like Maya, which I tend to avoid using as long as I can. I plan to continue working on my model into the summer, and hopefully add a voice-over that I may use in a video of my model. I recognise that my strengths lie in drawing, but with hard work and determination I can become just as skilled in other aspects of my work.

This project has been an eye-opener, as I was required to be far more independent with my work, and learned new and sometimes more complicated methods of bringing my work to life in 3D. I feel far more prepared for 3rd year, and look forward to coming back to challenge myself with new projects in September.

Adaptation B: Further Modelling Progress

Now most of the body is done, I've began editing aspects of the model so she's not 100% symmetrical. This includes adding new thorns and changing the vines growing on her legs and arms. I've also coloured her dress to make sure her dress and skin isn't clipping.

I'm hoping to add the head and other final touches to the model ASAP so I can begin texturing her.

Adaptation B: Modelling Progress

I started work on the body last week and made a fair amount of progress. There are still many parts that need fixing/finishing, but I'm happy with how she's coming along. I've also started roughly forming her dress and the twisting vines on her arms.

After receiving some help and advice on fixing the body from Alan, he also advised me on how to improve the head. Areas like bridge of her nose have been softened, and the spaces around her eyes, cheeks and mouth have been brought forward to give her a more realistic facial structure. Next I'm going to work on sculpting a more realistic ear, before checking back in with Alan for any final touches that need to be made.

Adaptation B: Modelling Progress

Still a lot to do, a few things that need some further tweaks and fixes, but I'm very happy with how she's coming along.

Adaptation B: Modelling Progress

A few more progress shots from last night. Since then, I have finished forming the inside of her nostrils and have made the bridge of her nose flatter to match her design.

Adaptation B: Skin Colour

The Rose Tree

The Sun-Flower

The Lilly
I've produced these thumbnails to help me decide on skin colours for the characters. All the colours were picked from the palettes I posted some time ago. My favourites so far are 3, 8 and 9 for the Rose, 3, 5, 6 and 7 for the Sun-Flower and 2, 6 and 8 for the Lilly.

Adaptation B: Face Designs

Possible final face designs for the Rose, Sun-flower and Lilly. I wanted to incorporate Blake's more rounded style with my own, as well as giving their noses wider bridges. I would greatly appreciate feedback on these with any suggestions on how to improve the designs, or comments on aspects of them people like.

Adaptation B: Style

Taking inspiration from Blake's work, I'm trying to change the style of my designs somewhat. After taking a closer look at Blake's style, I attempted to redraw my characters using common features in his work.
As well as more rounded features and large eyes, Blake tends to draw people with wide, flat noses, with the bridge starting from the eyebrows. The brows are usually thin and curved, with no sharp arch.
So, taking inspiration from Blake, I tried to soften the faces of my characters, but kept aspects that I feel are important; the Rose Tree's sharp brows, the Sun-flower's weary eyes, and the Lilly's youthful look.

Adaptation B: The Lilly - Clothing Colours

For the Lilly, I want to avoid using just white, so instead I picked various colours from the palettes I posted a while ago, then played with gradients, overlays and saturation. My personal favourites are 4, 5 and 6.

Adaptation B: The Sun-flower - Clothing Colours and Patterns

Some ideas for clothing colours for the Sun-flower. Because she's older than the other goddesses, I want her clothes to be a mix and match of patterns, implying she's picked them up over the years or received them as offerings. I've chosen browns and oranges, to represent the sun and earth.
